A 16-bit computer used by industry and government. It could be programmed in FORTRAN or assembly language. It had 16 slots to hook to HP instruments. The 2116 was also more tolerant of heat, with the competitors needing a controlled environment. The 2116 computer was $22,000. The model 7970 magnetic tape drives were $4600 each (10.5 inch reel to reel). The model 2748 paper tape reader was $1500. It had a reading speed of 500 characters per second.
