Equipment Description: Silicon Wafer - 4"

Label Write-up:
This is a wafer of pure crystalline silicon etched with transistor chips. First the silicon is melted, impurities removed, and drawn into a boule. Then sliced wafer thin, doped, etched, thin-film deposits, to make integrated circuits. In 1960 the wafers were 1" in diameter. The 4" was introduced in 1976 and became the most popular size during the 1980's. They are still made today in 8" wafers for chips and solar cells.
